The basis of the graviton cannons and – together with the warp engine – a requirement for black hole research.
Role
Graviton technology unlocks the Light graviton cannon (from level 2) and the Heavy graviton cannon (from level 6). At level 10 – together with the Warp engine at level 10 – it is required for Black hole research and therefore for the Imperial star base.
All it needs is a Research lab at level 2 and Energy technology level 2 – so you can get started early.
Background
Graviton Technology revolves around the research of just one field -- the so-called graviton field. This graviton field is comparable to a magnetic field, but is much stronger. At high intensities it is able to accelerate ammunition to very high speeds in a certain direction using so-called "glide modules". Research into graviton technology allows the construction of graviton cannons. Overly strong graviton fields are known to even create black holes.
