Particle attack
Use the particle cannon to blast enemy defenses before your fleet arrives – and the particle shield to protect yourself against it.
The Particle cannon has just one job: destroying defenses on a foreign planet. It does not hit ships. That makes it the key to cracking heavily defended targets for your fleet – and unlike after a battle, the destroyed defenses are not rebuilt afterwards.
Charging up
The cannon fires stored particles. They come from your planet's energy surplus, which gradually fills the storage of the Particle cannon, the Particle shield and the Teleporter. Every level enlarges the respective storage. When it fires, the cannon releases its entire charge.
You choose which storage is charged first in the Economy window under "Load energy first to": particle cannon, particle shield, teleporter or all evenly. Once the chosen storage is full, the surplus flows into the others.
Target and priority
You fire from the particle cannon window or via a planet's window on the Galaxy map. You choose one of two priorities: Shields hits the shield domes first and the guns afterwards, Defense starts with the heaviest guns and only goes for the domes after that. Solar cells always come last.
The further away the target, the less destructive power arrives. The beam needs a short flight time and appears in your fleet movements. Afterwards both sides receive a report on the destroyed installations.
You can only fire at players you would also be allowed to attack – not at members of your alliance, not at players in vacation mode and not at alien planets.
Protection against particle beams
The Particle shield absorbs incoming beams with its stored energy. If that is enough, no damage gets through. Otherwise only the remainder hits your defenses. After that the shield has to recharge.
